After a controversy filled week for Formula 1 the 2008 Bahrain Grand Prix got underway today with Polands' Robert Kubica starting from Pole Position. The race lived up to its' previous drama and saw lots of overtaking A poor start saw Lewis Hamilton fall from third on the grid back to position 10 behind Fernando Alonso. This led to what could well be a championship deciding accident between Alonso and Hamilton. Before the race was over speculation had already begun that Alonso may have deliberately not accelerated out of the corner, or perhaps even touched the brakes, causing Hamilton to lose his front wing by hitting the back of the Renault. This led to a race domiated throughout by the Ferrari team with Massa leading from Raikkonen for the majority of the race. Raikkonen led a charge worthy of a World Champion in his second stint by setting a repeated series of fastest lap times, however Massa managed to retain his lead after their second pit stops. Robert Kubica brought his BMW home in third ahead of his team mate Heidfeld who never had the pace to match any of the front three runners. 1. MASSA Ferrari 2. RAIKKONEN Ferrari +3.3s 3.
